About Gloucester Road

Gloucester Road is named after Maria, Duchess of Gloucester and Edinburgh. The wife of Prince William Henry built a house along the street in 1805. Prior to this, the road was known as Hog Moore Lane since at least the early seventeenth century.

Located within the affluent Kensington district, Gloucester Road runs north-south between Kensington Gardens and Kensington High Street in the north and Old Brompton Road in the south, where it continues south as Cranley Gardens. St. Stephen's Church on Gloucester Road is located just north of Cromwell Road. Built in 1867, the church is known for its former warden, T.S. Eliot.

Gloucester Road runs west of several major attractions, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Natural History Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Science Museum. The Royal College of Music and Imperial College London are also nearby.
